I'm glad your family found the healthcare they needed.
The care my late father needed was not available anywhere near Eagle River.

Well, we could not wait till July to start exploring WI. We are headed up to St Germain and Eagle river in two weeks. I wonder how deep the snow will be. Weather has been a mixed bag in central Illinois this past few weeks. Sorta feel like I'm being prepared.

I know quite a bit about Vilas County, send me a direct message if you need more information. Yes, expect some snow in the woods, but it should be starting to melt a bit after this week with high temperatures in the 40s by the end of April.

While I don't live anywhere near far North Wisconsin as Eagle River, I do have a cabin on wooded property in Marinette County that I use on weekends and summers. Ticks are everywhere come spring and don't disappear until late July or August. I moved here almost 5 years ago. I HATE the winter but absolutely love Wisconsin. My retirement plan (10 years away) consists of me sitting in SC from January - April. I'll be back in Spring, that is when Spring actually decides to show its face!!

Ticks ? Really? I would think the winters would keep them thinned out in the Northwoods.

Oh no, they come out in spring and they are around to mid to late July; that's when it gets really hot by us. I have picked ticks off of me in places I never wanted to pick ticks off of me!! LOL. I'm so grossed out by them and it's also mosquito season around that time as well. I've had to adjust, otherwise I would be putting the for sale sign down the road.

If I could make a recommendation on tick removers. Wisconsin and Minnesota are two of the worst states for ticks and Lyme diseases. Be very diligent! I keep some...H3D O'Tom Tick Twisters on me at all times. I keep some in the car, at home and when I travel. They work really well. I went hiking up in western Wisconsin near LaCrosse and when we came out of the woods we each had around 30 ticks on us, we didn't panic but we slowly took them off. Most were not attached yet but some were. Ticks are nothing to ignore.

We were blessed with a beautiful weekend for our trip to Eagle River. The snow melt-off from the previous weekend storm was in high gear and many of the roads we traveled to look at lakes were mud. Glad we brought the truck as we needed it in a few locations.

We managed to visit the towns/areas of Eagle River, Three lakes, St. Germain and Tomahawk. We walked the old downtown areas of ER and 3Lakes. I tried to envision what the summer months look like in these small towns. There were a number of empty stores on the ER strip. DW is checking these out as possible locations for her business. Gotta check out the rent/ownership costs, but I wonder if the short summer months can yield a positive cash flow. I also wonder if the winter snow sport months attract a substantial population influx.

Overall it was a good trip. We looked at several lake houses. Got to see the ones that leaked from the melt-off and the ones that were better cared for.

We are scheduled to return in July. Lots more to explore.

Deer ticks aren't, but 95% of the ticks I find on me in WI are wood ticks. The time I did have lyme I never even saw the tick.

Lookin at lake houses was a bit of a disappointment. Only one seemed like it was taken care of. We are considering buying a lot and building a Wausau home so we can finally escape our hundred year old house curse. We have historically liked older homes. Well, that's over. I wanna fish.
