I've been asking about Oshkosh lately, because I'll likely have a job offer in Oshkosh in near future. All this time we've been just thinking about living in Oshkosh, but it occured to me that Appleton is only less than half hour drive away.

This move will be a permanent move for our young family. Our plan is to settle down this time and let our two girls grow up through the same school system with the same friends. So we have to get this right.

Where would you rather raise your family? I've heard Appleton is a best city in Wisconsin for families, but Oshkosh also seems to have very good schools as well. What about cost of living? Taxes? Other factors?

Thank you for your input!

Appleton is a very nice city, IMHO it has many nicer things than Oshkosh. But Oshkosh has a much better Library, nicer museums, better access to the water, and then EAA.

Both cities are very nice. IMHO, you can't go wrong with either.

If you work in Oshkosh, but live in Appleton, beware of one thing. It will involve a relatively short commute, but on a most NASTY highway, Known as U.S. 41, with very NASTY and I do mean NASTY drivers. I am a commercial truck driver (all 48 states), and with a FEW exceptions the stretch of Highway 41 between Fond Du Lac and Green Bay has some of the WORST drivers in the country. The highway itself is outdated, well over capacity and being that it is rarely patrolled, it is a "Free For All". Just FYI.

I grew up in Oshkosh. Spent 20 years of my life there. It's an okay place to grow up, but I would definitely not want to live there after. Almost everything now is out along the highway. If you get a job in Oshkosh, you should probably stay in Oshkosh. Also, I recommend the Mexican Restuarant Durango's. It is three levels above any other Mexican Restaurant I have been to in my entire life.

I don't live in Appleton, but my sister does. We are native Floridians and sis moved away decades ago for a cooler clime. She has lived in Oshkosh and now lives in Appleton - I say Appleton, hands down. I think it is a very nice city for its size, very safe, lots to do and reasonable real estate. I think it has a lot to offer, I was quite surprised when I visited her and saw how much the town had - much more than I expected.

Good luck!

Post appleton

i've lived in fond du lac most of my life, moved to oshkosh for about 2 1/2 years and moved to appleton. more things to do. better shopping. much nicer area to live. oshkosh is starting to be rundown in some areas. they dont fix the roads but living wise its cheaper. but i really like being in appleton. and highway 41 does suck. there's always accidents but getting better. good luck picking which city to move to.
