I'm seriously considering and have made some plans toward moving to Austin, TX. I'm curious what others, esp. those who lived in the area at some point think of this. Any thoughts and considerations I should be taking into account would be helpful.

Thanks much in advance!

I was only there on vacation a number of years ago, attending the wedding of a friend who has lived there for 25+ years. They love it, and I have to say I really enjoyed the vacation. However, it was April and hadn't gotten sickeningly hot and humid yet. Lots to do and great restaurants.

Good luck with your move!

Well it's miserably hot, but I'm sure you've thought of this. You know those days in Wisconsin when it gets to 90 - 95 degrees, with only a low of 75 at night, well that's all summer long in Austin. They have more sunshine, but they can have some nasty thunderstorms, and lots of flooding. I lived in the hill country about 90 min west of Austin. Beautiful area.

Austin is to Texas, what Madison is in Wisconsin. Odd ball, liberal, hip, young person hang out, etc.
They're huge on Texas pride, but nice laid back people.

I LIVE for those days so it is nice to get the perspective of someone who knows both. The way people go on and on about the heat down there I am a tiny bit concerned, but I figure that I already scurry between heated car and heated building most of the year plus about a month of scurrying from air conditioned car to air conditioned building even here. I hate being cold more than I hate being hot.

Thanks for the input, both of you!
