To me, it's just my home town -- but I've always wondered what an outsider thinks of it'

So, whether or not you've ever been there or not, what do you think of . . . .

. . . . Waupun

City Data profile and photos above.

I think it is fairly typical for a Wisconsin town of 12,000 people.

The prison and the library seem to be the two biggest stand-outs.

It has been 京都 (Northern Capital) for 700 years. The name when respelled, in Romanization, differently according to which western powers control that world. Don't forget, it was Beiiping back in the 60s. Chinese is not a single unified spoken language, and all words are pronounced differently in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Shanghai, but remain the same word with the same meaning. . Think of words as being analogous to numbers. "63" means the same, whether spelled sixty-three, soixante-trois, or drei-und-sechzig.

By the way, I was looking for your own personal impressions of Waupun, not a Google link to somebody else's. When you see the name, what picture pops into your mind? What would it be like to live or visit or pass through?

A nondescript town along a nondescript highway viewed while driving between more interesting places (Madison - Fox Valley/Door County).

Similar to Whitewater or Beaver Dam. Nice enough I guess but nothing jumps out at you.

Been a while since I have been that way - so thanks for memory tickler.

Waupun itself seems like a low-key and fine enough place, though not particularly distinctive except for the prison.

For me, the attraction of Waupun lies in its proximity to Horicon Marsh and a few other good nature spots.

I've never heard of it, which is probably good (nothing negative). I have been to Madison and Milwaukee, however. After looking at some information on it, my only hesitation would be living that close to a 900 inmate prison which has a shortage of staff.

Waupun is in the less scenic area of the state, the Fox Valley. It is your typical Upper Midwest blue collar small city with a very low poverty rate.

I like all the statuary. Many years ago, my husband and I looked at some real estate in Waupun. We ended up in Fond du Lac instead. Our neighbors were Waupun natives... had a huge family. I'm sure you'd recognize the name.
