I want my ground beef cooked before I eat it. No raw meat of any kind.

Wisconsin residents are being urged by health officials to pass on eating a traditional holiday dish this year to avoid getting sick.

A "cannibal sandwich," considered a holiday favorite in the state, consists of raw ground beef on bread with sliced onions, salt and pepper.

We ate that all the time years ago. That was before the bad type of ecoli was prevalent. It was even catered at weddings. It's a Wisconsin tradition. Never heard of it called cannibal sandwich, though.

My husband and daughter in law both eat them every Christmas Eve. Ugh, I can't get past it but they love it.

They have been around awhile remember having them over 6o years ago mostly on small cracker size pieces of bread and not huge portion. I remember eating them but doubt I would do it today with all the salmonella issues that keep popping up. Burger on the grill much better.

I loved having cannibal sandwiches when I was a young one growing up in Milwaukee in the 60’s/early 70’s, ours in small rye bread. Never got sick but yes things could have been far different then vs now. So as an adult I pass, though I still love liverwurst, candy raisins and other tasty treats from my youth.
