Hello,

We are planning to move to Kenosha, Wisconsin in spring 2021. We will be working in Kenosha. We have been searching houses online in Kenosha but what are our other options? What other cities near Kenosha will be good for buying a house -like 30 minutes drive max? We don't want to go over 300 budget wise. How is Gurnee, Illinois? Other cities like Racine, Somers? Pros and cons? Any tips or advice from locals is appreciated. Thanks so much.

Hope this reply isn't too late...Pleasant Prairie is a quite popular place, particularly for families. It's rather cookie-cutter - shopping centers, big box stores, developments - but it's safe and relatively inexpensive.

Bristol, WI is quite nice. Sleepy small town but they've put in some new developments of late which look quite nice. If you wanted to extend a bit (not sure exactly where in Kenosha you're working) Paddock Lake and Silver Lake are reasonably nice.Somers isn't bad, though anything near or west of I-94 gets awfully rural in a hurry.

I'd skip Gurnee, and Racine too. Both towns have their good parts and good points, but they're difficult to move to without knowing well, because there are rougher areas interspersed with the nicer places.

Don't rule out Gurnee. There are a lot of nice neighborhoods, schools are good and plenty of shopping. Easy access to I-94. I don't think you can compare Gurnee to Racine.

Not many people would choose to live in Illinois in this situation for many reasons.
I would go to the south suburbs of Milwaukee before I’d live in Illinois. Places like Franklin and Greendale have top notch schools.
