Just wondering how long someone would need to be employed full-time to be eligible for unemployment benefits in Wisconsin. I understand that they determine eligibility by looking at wages during a base period of 12 months. I've been employed 10 months with the employer and am being fired for missing work due to serious illness. I've not had a fulltime job prior to this one - i was in college and working part-time, so i'm wondering if i'm not eligible because they don't have a full 12 month base period to look at?

I know that missing work because of something that is unavoidable like illness isn't necessarily a disqualification, but what about the only 10 months of employment?

Thank you!

Default Benifits

Yes give DLHR, Dept of Labor and Human Rescourses, in Madison. Have the date you started and were last employeed. They will be able to answer all your questions. They are in the employees corner to make sure employers are fair and ethical to employees.

They will ask you your SS# and with that they will have instant access to your employment history. Then they will tell you how much you will get and how long the unemployment benefits will last.
After that you can do it all by phone.
They make it very simple.
