We, too, are planning (hoping) to move to the Chippewa Falls/Eau Claire area soon. I've read a few posts that claim there is a major meth problem in the area and that, as a result, crime has gone sky high.

What's the scoop?

And, I also hear the Eau Claire schools are some of the best in the country. What about Chippewa Falls schools? And what makes them so good?

And...there's more...my husband would be looking for a job in something like quality control and/or machine maintenance. He has an education and background in jet engine repair/maintenance/quality control and wants to get out of aviation. Any hopes of something in Chippewa Falls or Eau Claire?

We'd appreciate any info or advice you have on the area.

Thanks,
GA Peach

I can't tell you anything about the schools or jobs in your husband's field in the Eau Claire area... but as I have said before, the meth problems you've heard about are probably something you should give some serious thought to before you make a decision about moving to the area. Even if you manage to keep your kids' noses clean, living in an area with a meth problem will affect your life because it affects the community so much. Read my reply on the thread below, "Major meth epidemic in Chippewa Falls?" for more info. You can PM me if you have questions. I know more about this issue than I really care to but I'd be glad to help.

I grew up in Fall Creek 9 miles east of EC and I liked the school, most of the teachers are great, its really into sports so athletes do get treated better. The only thing we saw in FC was weed. I wouldnt put my kids into Chippewa high school it always seemed like the girls were getting pregnant and it has a big drug problem. I have like in EC/FC/Chippewa area for 22 years and havent ever seen meth, Ive been to parties where there were other drugs, coke/heroine/x/weed, but never meth.
Its a big college town so there are a lot of bars and drunks.
In my personal opinion I find EC very boring and am moving next year for Seattle.

There is a meth problem in the area but I wouldn't let it stop you from moving to a town. I don't believe the meth problem is causing a huge spike in crime. They tend to blow things out of proportion.
