Wow, 24.... Wait someone is calling me.... Old man winter, what a surpise... It's only August... Oh well, I think we're in for a early winter...

My predictions...

September 30, Madison gets 3" of the white stuff
October 17th La Crosse and Mid state see 6-8" of the white stuff

so on and so forth...

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...lol

I know this is heresy, but last year was a typical "global warming" type winter.
Warmer than average (southern Wi readings) but with record precip (all white and in our driveways.).

It was also another disaster of a forecast for The Old Farmers Almanac. So this year, I'll buy my copy and expect the winter to be the exact opposite of what they say it'll be.

Geechie, You don't expect alot of snow? Alot of older folks I spoke to were telling me that I should be prepared for lots of snow... They're pretty wise when it comes to this stuff too..

Oh, I expect lot's of snow again this year. But I believe (and I reserve the right to be 100% wrong) there'll be above average temps and a couple of long thaws.

Ever hear of the old saying, "If a duck walks in snow for Thanksgiving, he'll walk in mud at Christmas"?

That is pushing it a bit don't you think .

It isn't unusual so see some light flurries mid-Oct but several inches-unlikely, but you never know.

Maybe it was a tourist from Illinois that killed your garden...

Glad I'm not an Illinois tourist anymore! Overnight temps are still decent here on the east side, haven't hit the 40's yet.

I think we're going to get as much or more snow than last year, the low snow cycle we were in for awhile may be over and its back to more normal winters.
