also, is the republik of kalifornia, they are a different state altogether. they stopped abiding by the Constitution a long time ago and the southern half should have been cut off from the rest of the USA.

It is this very statement that makes me even more grateful that Southern Cali exists. The bullheaded ignorance of people to assume that California alone is some how out of sync with the US Constitution or all together a different state is absurd. Frankly, it has been the progressive nature of Californians who have been greatly influential on many other states to broaden their policies ragarding discrimination laws, medicinal treatments, freedom of speach, freedom of religion, freedom to be in a relationship with whom you choose and not be targeted for hateful discrimination in the workplace or public. California has many problems as well, but name one state that is as willing to identify and correct them. Enough ranting on Cali. I had hoped this thread would stick to trash, but it seems some blew in instead.

Keep up the great work trash picker uppers, and "who cares" whose property it is, it is all of our planet and we must bare the responsibility for those who refuse.

I've lived in a good number of places throughout the U.S. Wisconsin, Illinois, Oregon and California (now Utah). If you look enough you'll find plenty to NOT like anywhere you go. If it's not the weather, the drivers, the over zealous religions, the roads, the air...and well the list goes on. Listen, I still love Wisconsin overall to this day. There is so much to feel good about. Sure, the stench in the towns where the paper mills makes me wonder why someone would live there, the apparently high drunk driver rate due to the considerable consumption of alcohol (mainly beer) is a bit of a concern, and sure, if you're not hearty the winters can be a bit to contend with, BUT, the food, the people and so so much of the scenery is just darned hard to beat no matter where you've been.

I traveled the State for over 25 years as a sales rep, and saw most of the State. I never met people I didn't like. Yeah I suppose excessive cigarette butts are an annoyance. They had plenty when I lived in Northern California and by far there are hardly enough smokers there to count. Ignorance isn't unique, nor does Wisconsin have a lock on it. People willing to take chances with their health with what is known as perhaps the most addicting chemical on the planet is unfortunate, BUT once again you need to look PAST that.

It's more than just thinking the "glass is half full" mentality. There is just so much more to it. If it bothers you that much I'd choose another location to live and work. Heck there are more than enough choices. I can't argue with you on that one point however, Wisconsin is a bit behind the times regarding tobacco regulations in restaurants and bars. But if that is what the majority want they will have it that way. Here in Utah they pretty much treat tobacco use as akin to carrying a nuclear weapon on your person . They don't allow it ANYWHERE the public are allowed to go. No restaurants bars, not even within 50 yards of the entrance of a public building. Talk about tough. Can't say it bothers me as I lost a parent due to that stuff nor do I like the smell on my clothes, so no warm and fuzzies for it from me. But please consider looking past all that and just try to enjoy the things Wisconsin has to offer if you've made the decision to go there. I think in time you'll come to appreciate it.

I drive 60+ miles to/from work every day and I see people throwing out garbage and cigarette butts all the time. Just today one hit my car and made me very angry.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of any hotlines that Wisconsin has so you can report people who have no respect for our environment. I was searching for info online but came up with nothing... I did find numbers for numerous other states but couldn't find anything for Wisconsin.

Jones - that's a good question. When I was out Sun. picking up trash saw a man across the way letting his huge dog do his "thing" right outside the condo complex, no bag, and just walked away - does it all the time. I called the police but they have to "catch him in the act". Yeah - like that's going to happen. She said she'd send a patrol car but it never happened. That's a big pet peeve of mine especially where people are clearly going to be walking.

That's one of my pet peeves too Suecen. Lazy inconsiderate pet owners!!

All winter long we had a neighbor, or neighbors because both him and his wife did it, that walked their dog and for some reason she started peeing and pooping on our driveway, or a few feet farther along but in front of our mailbox. They walked early, just as dawn is breaking, but I'm up, usually getting ready to go for my walk.... or on my computer where I have a clear view of the driveway. The first couple of times I was shocked that they would let her do that. And of course after she did it once every time they walked her she searched for that spot so she could squat and do her duty there. They had her on leash, but they stopped and let her find her spot and then after she was done they would just walk away. She only poop a couple of times but she peed every day!

There was a frozen yellow spot on my driveway for two months. It's a short driveway, two car lengths long, so it's not like it's a mile long driveway and who cares. I scraped it, shovel it, salted it, but nothing detered her. Finally one day I was pulling out to go for my walk when they happened by. I jokingly told him I would move my truck so she could use her favorite spot to pee.

Now they keep her on the other side of the road.

I just can't understand how someone would think it is OK to let your dog poop and pee on someone's driveway. Plus on our street there's several hundred feet between houses, plenty of other places to let your dog go potty.

Well, the problem is they are NOT thinking, quite obviously. My mom's neighbor walks 2 dogs and every time tells her "Oh I forgot the bag!" and let's them do it anywhere and everywhere. I personally wouldn't walk with a dog walker who did that - it's just plain wrong and no common sense.

Hi Again! Great article in tomorrow's Sunday Milwaukee Journal ( I buy it a day earlier at Dollar Tree!), entitled '7 million pounds bagged in l day'. Nearly 7 million pounds of debris was collected from waterways and shorelines around the world during a SINGLE day last year. Nearly 400,000 volunteers scoured about l7,000 miles of coastline, river bottoms and ocean floors during the Ocean Conservancy's 23rd International Coastal Cleanup in September. INTERESTING POINT AND RELATIVE TO OUR POST: The group's report says more than 3.2 million cigarette butts were picked up during last year's efforts, making the items the most common found. The volunteers collected more than l.3 million cig. butts in the U.S. alone. Well, anyway, if you guys get a chance go on-line and read it - very interesting and sad at the same time!!

Actually I do not smoke at all, and I weigh 210 at 6'4" tall. but my point being is that it is not the responsibility of either the goverment nor the populace to police the individuals.

it is the responsibility of the individual. as far as refuse goes, please leave my property alone, as I clean it up myself and do not want or need any self rightous jerk telling me how to do things.

If people want to do their part helping clean up, more power to them. The street sweeper just went by, looking good!
