Hi All,

I currently live in Oconomowoc, my job is in Madison until November. My position will be moved to Wausau, and am wondering what it is like to live in this area? How much snow, how cold, is it hot in the summer, humid? What are the people like? friendly etc. What are some of the things to do in this area? Is it safe to live in Wausau, I heard from a co worker that you do not want to live in Wausau, but in Stevens Point.

Any help would be appreciated.

I live in Marshfield (about 45 minutes south of Wausau) Its a nice size area with a ski area and kayaking area. There is an area in Wausau ( I believe West) but dont quote me that is kinda shady that had some arson problems in the past year. Overall its not a bad place to be and driving from Point to Wausau everyday would be a hassle (considering the residential area is a good 2 miles from the interstate+the drive to Wausau would be a lot of money to pay for gas. Areas like Weston and Schofield are great places to live. If you dont mind the smell of a paper mill Mosinee is a nice area built by a river. Hope this helps

Something to keep in mind is that the shady area of Wausau should be used loosely. Nothing like Milwaukee with murders or an extreme "ghetto."

Rib Mountain is a nice area (ski area) Im sorry but I cant find/remember where the arson problem was last year. Wausau West is more of a Hmong community (as seen in the Highschool) but that doesnt mean anything. Wausau East is more white if you want to be in that area. Once again not stereotyping just saying what I know. If you have kids who are in HS or something of that matter schools are nice in the area. Wausau West and Newman Catholic are in each others backyards and East is a beautiful brand new school. Overal I would suggest living in a place like Schofield where your kids (if you have them) could attend DC Everest Highschool.

I think that Weston area is a booming area, with the new hospital right off Hwy 29, any real estate in that area will be a good investment. I think the people are very friendly. I don't live there but I do business there once a week and own a couple of properties there.

Default rib mtn area

Hi,

Thank you so much for the replies thus far. Scofield sounds interesting. Does rib mtn have smaller homes around $100,000, or does schofield or is this a very expensive area to live in. Does the rib mtn area have apartments, condos to rent or buy?

I will be coming up at the end of the month to look the area over, can you suggest a place to stay? and are there points of interest to see?

Does Wausau have arts/crafts/music? or is it mainly outside activities?

I know so many questions.

Thanks

thanks for the tip about the motel.

I spoke to someone at the art fair and she suggested living in Marathon, where is this? I thought Marathon was the county Wausau was in?

I think I am confused. What is the town just north of wausau, Merrill, is this a nice place to live?

Default retirement

Hi All,

In Wisconsin, where do you think the best city is for retirement. I am not sure at this time if I will stay in this state, I have at least 4 more years of work.

Or where is the best place to retire?

Marathon is a small town that is perhaps 15 miles west of Wausau. My sister actually has a dairy farm there. The town I think is less than 2000 population. As for Merrill, I haven't been there but I know the courthouse is beautiful!! As for retirment I LOVE Minocqua!!! Even though I have been here in Cali for 20 odd years, I always return in the summer for vacation since my sister and parents live there yet.
