Being from Wisconsin (now living in Las Vegas), I wish I could send all you Wisconsinites some warm weather. I see on the Weather Channel how COLD it is back there. But..one has to just grin and bear it. I've always said..Wisconsin has two seasons...Winter and July. Only 2 and a half months to go!!

We settled in Green Bay about two weeks ago and haven't minded the weather much. At least we are getting good use out of our winter clothing! What did disturb is that our son had his skateboard stolen out of his hands on his fifth day here. Some older boys in a car too. Our son was out skateboarding and they stopped and asked to see his board. Being a small town kid from southern Illinois he assumed they were trying to be friends so he gave one his skateboard to look at, assuming he would hand it back. Nope, they took off with it. Our son was crushed. I posted on the Green Bay news, hoping someone would recognize the description of the car and the boys and another "nice" Green Bay person, told me to go back to Illinois! (He was probably the one that took the board!) So, when the lease is up in June on this apartment, we are looking at getting out to a smaller and hopefully a nicer area.

This weather is awfully discouraging, especially after how nice most of March was...my tulips that were coming up are history I think. How do you like Vegas? My husband is out in Reno and we will be joining him as soon as our house here in WI sells..I can't wait, especially after this weather!!

Good Luck to you in Reno. I was only there once so not really familiar w/ it. I like it here in Las Vegas(I'm actually in Henderson). SO, SO MANY things about Wisconsin are nice . I do miss it. For me --it truly came down to the weather thing. Call me weak if anyone wants...but from a psychological standpoint.. I could no loger tolerate the cold long winters and the endless dreary/overcast days. Not being into any winter sports at all, being "Couped" up in the house for 6-8 months out of the year was too much. I love outdoor activities like yard work, bicycling, hiking, walking and could easily hanlde 365 days a year of sunshine. This will be my first full summer in L.V. Looking forward to that first 100 degree day. While everyone else out here will be "Holed-up" in their Homes with the A.C. blasting, You'll find me OUTSIDE doing something!!!

Sorry to hear what happened to you son Dollly. What a shame. Sadly, one can find PUNKS just about anywhere. As far as the "Lowlife" telling you to go back to Illinois, that person is not representative of the vast majority of people in Green Bay. Might I suggest to you a few nice communities within 25-30 miles of Green Bay. Wrightstown, Seymour, Sturgeon Bay. These are smaller communities that might have a "Friendlier" feel to them. I could suggest Appleton/Fox Cities, but only if you can tolearte Conservatism, because that is a trademark of that area. Also (and I'm not bad-mouthing Appleton), but should you consider Appleton, I suggest you check into some of the recent "Foul-ups" that have occured with major city projects in the last ten years or so.Lots of taxpayers dollars were wasted. Anywho, Hope you do find your new life in Northeastern Wisconsin to be pleasant. If not, Henderson Nevada still has a lot of room for expansion. Newcommers seem to be welcome here and the fact remains that just about everyone out here IS a newcommer. Take Care

Hey GreggB...I enjoy reading your WI posts...we would one day love to live there, at least during the summer, if not all year. We are looking into the Manitowoc area, as we've visited there in the past. We really like the fact that there isn't the conjestion and as many people as here in California where we live. Now, about L.V... this will be your first full summer there? It gets pretty hot there...but if you are an outdoors person it probably won't bother you too much. We live in the Inland Empire, and it gets pretty HOT here...last year it got up to well over 110 degrees for several days straight WITH high humidity, so it was pretty miserable. But those who love the outdoors...they were still outside doing their thing!

It wasn't that bad at all today. It was about 29 and the wind died down. We were outside for about 4 hours cutting trees. I work in a preschool and we had the kids outside on Thursday for over an hour. I don't mind the cold weather at all.
When it was 80 almost 2 weeks ago I thought it was too hot to fast. But then again I am one of those that is out walking, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing or even, if there is no snow, riding my bicycle in the winter.

Thanks for saying you enjoy reading my Wi posts. I really TRY and be OBJECTIVE and TRUTHFUL. A "Newbie" here, SHO, doesn't seem to like my posts. Wisconsin is a BEAUTIFUL, WONDERFUL state. It has a lot going for it. Weather CAN BE an issue for SOME people. Long, COLD winters, short summers, too many cloudy days. This is a TRUE statement. NOT a slam on the state--just a TRUE statement. Probably MOST current Wisconsinites would agree to the statement. For people moving out of the "Mess" that I hear California is, Wisconsin would be a most positive, refreshing change for them. Clean Air, Affordable Housing, Friendly People, Recreational Opportunities Galore, Low Crime Rates In MOST cities, Good Schools In MOST Communities, Low Un-Employment Rates. I live in Henderson Nevada, but will always enjoy my 3 or 4 yearly visits back to Wi. Good Luck to You!!
