As for Door County? Id recommend Fish Creek. Its the quintessential Door County town. Nice shopping, restaurants, etc... We stayed at the Apple Creek Resort and enjoyed it. Be sure to check out Peninsula State Park while in the area, its nice. And avoid Washington Island. That was booooooring. Theres like 5 shops on the whole island, and everything esle is private property, and the ferry costs are OUTRAGEOUS.

Try Washington Island-it's an interesting ferry ride from the peninsula, and a great place to truly get away from it all. But be forewarned, your cell phone won't work there.

A great place to fish relax and have a good time is Washington Island Wi. It has everything you need;shopping, fishing, parties. Its very beutifull, the people are great. It is alittle expensive because it is an island.

Washington Island is also an easy day trip when visiting the Door.A ferry will ship you there (from Gills Rock)and the rest of your trip you can rent a bike.It is rather interestng for the Midwest to have an island like this with year round residents.Remember, sometimes in winter or severe storm weather, its difficult/impossible to get to or get off of..I always thought them of the hardy pioneer type

Default looking to move to Door County ( Fish Creek )

Hello everyone! I am looking for advise on moving to WI.
My husband and I were recently transferred to Fl. from MI. and as soon as I am done with school we would love to move back north God willing. I was born and raised in MI. and I loved home but when a large pharmaceutical co. started cutting jobs and basically destroyed the econmy of our town we had to move and we miss it so bad. We miss the Fall and Winters.
I actually fell in love with the Door County area ( Gills Rock, Fish Creek, and such) through a book that I read and am now reading to my husband, along with other information I gatherd via the internet. I even have the Door County web site saved to my computer. I hear people say all the time how "The Smokey Mountians are God's country" and the Smokeys are beautiful but they haven't seen anything till the see what little I have seen of Door County. To me it's one of God's most increadible creations and I hear the fishing is fabulouse and that when it snow's IT Really Snows! We want so vey much to move there but I need facts. Like, what are the jobs prospects for RN's like? Is there good health care near by? Are the people friendly? My spouse is a Army brat and is Asian/German decent would his nationality be an issue in such a small community? I personally have had enough of rude, mean and inconsiderate people and believe me Florida is full of them. We are good people who are just looking to live in a peaceful enviroment with some good old fashion morals and values and enjoy what beauty God has created. It seems like WI may have what we long for. To live in Door County is our dream but these questions could use some answers. If anyone could give some advise I/we appreciate it. Please try to give facts and not just opinions. Thanks

Hi: I am taking a group to Door County this fall and was thinking of staying at the Waterbury Inn. Do you think a group would like this. On some site it was rated only 2 stars and I try to do 3 stars or better. I want something reasonable but nice. Clean, you probably know what I mean.

Thanks.

HI
Did you end-up moving to Door County? I have lived here for about 34 years. I went to nursing school while I was lving in Door County. (school was in Green Bay).
There is definately work here for RN's and other medical people.
The local hospital is Door County Memorial. I'm sure you'd be welcomed in Door County. It's a beautiful place.

Default Sturgeon Bay / Manitowoc

I hope to be relocating from northeast Nebraska, soon. I am seeking information on RN wages, working conditions at the local hospitals, or experiences as a patient.
Are there areas in Sturgeon Bay, that are safer than others? I will be looking to purchase a small very modest home. I would also like to know where to find rental houses, incase I need time to purchase. I have searched for listings on the internet and don't seem to find rental houses.
How are the road conditions (during the winter) between St. Bay and Gr. Bay?
Looking forward to your insight!!

I agree w/ B'Goshboy. It depends on what you want to do in Door County.

I've stayed at the Inn at Cedar Crossing in Sturgeon Bay on Louisiana. I highly recommend it, especially the Williamsburg room. They have a restaurant open to the public - yum! The baked gnocchi is amazing - goat cheese, kalamata olives, and marinara sauce.

We just moved to SB this summer and found a very nice rental house (1-year lease) on the west side of town. We are quite comfortable here, and the neighbors are nice, too. Try the ads at Door County Advocate Many rentals are managed by ERA Starr Realty (in town). They're not very friendly but they're efficient.

Good luck on your move!
