Just be aware that the cost of living in Madison is way higher than in GB.

It is true the cost of living is higher in Madison, but everything has a trade off. Just depends what you are or are not willing to trade off.

Yes it's true. From what I have heard a lot is that there is no difference between Milwaukee and Madison with the exception Milwaukee's suburbs are more expensive however their enough middle class suburbs to make up for that. The whole fox cities and Green Bay area is very cheap to live in. Housing is the biggest and to my knowledge the only area where you will see a difference in cost of living. I'm sure milk and eggs still cost the same up there.

Considering one of the OP's stated criteria is a low COL, it seems that's not something he'd want to trade off. That's why I mentioned it to begin with so he'd be aware of it.

In my experience groceries are substantially cheaper up there. All the more so since they have a Woodman's up there.

We just got a "woodmans" down here as well. I haven't shopped their since it's like 15miles south of me, however I have been to their liquor dept. and I don't know if they all are like the one in Oak Creek but Holy Craft Beer Batman!!! It was like a discount liquor of craft beer! However they didn't have any high end vodkas which what we happened to be looking for.

Yeah, they typically have a good selection of craft beers, particularly from Wisconsin breweries. Unfortunately a lot of Wisconsin beers aren't sold in IL so the Woodmans locations down here aren't as well-stocked.

So where'd the new Woodman's by you go up?

The Woodman's in the south suburbs at 8131 South Howell Avenue, Oak Creek, WI‎ and as well as Kenosha.

and Kenosha at 7145 120th Avenue, Kenosha, WI‎. Couldn't you just stop at the one in kenosha on your way back from Wrigley North? Besides it's maybe an hour drive from IP during off peak hours.

If I'm going to drive all the way for Wisconsin just for beer, I'm hitting the major beer stores in Madison, namely Steve's and Riley's. Madison gets wider distribution than Milwaukee. It gets all the beers that come out of the Milwaukee market plus some that don't make it there as often or at all, particularly Lake Louie, Central Waters and Viking.

Viking distribution anywhere on the eastern half of the state is sporadic at best (the Twin Cities is its primary market), but I almost always find more varieties in Madison than in Milwaukee. I've never seen Lake Louie distributed in the Milwaukee area, and it's one of my favorite WI breweries. So until I start seeing it there, I'm gonna keep heading to Madison when I need to stock up on Wisconsin beers.

Speaking of which, I may need to do that soon since a couple of new New Glarus varieties just hit the shelves.
