We will be moving from a rural Akron area ( 5 miles East of Akron) to the Kewaunee area to work at the Nuclear Plant. Traditional family of 4 looking for a decent smaller city to buy a home. We are tired of the Akron/Cleveland/Canton rat race and we prefer something around 20 to 30 thousand city population. Manitowoc looks interesting but I have seen some negative posts about "gangs"?... I think after living and working around the Akron/Cleveland area where the real bangers are killing each other and robbery victims on a daily basis, the posts about gangs in Manitowoc or Two Rivers are posted by someone who may be jumping to conclusions after seeing a group of "wanabee gangstas". The small city of Kewaunee also looks interesting, but might be too sleepy for us. We both grew up in small towns , so we like that atmosphere, just not tooooo sleepy. Comments?... Thanks.

Kewaunee is very cute and picturesque with its lovely lakeshore setting. Although it is small you're very close to Green Bay and not far from the Fox Cities, and would easily be able to take in entertainment venues in those places.

I haven't lived in the area, but I have some family that live near Manitowoc and I'm usually in the area a couple times a year. So take my advice with that in mind...

If you don't want to stay in the actual city of Manitowoc, (which looks to have some nice neighborhoods, especially on the north side), I would look at Two Rivers. It's a little closer to Kewaunee and has some nice main street areas. It feels like a smaller city with some half-way decent shopping nearby, but still retains a lot of charm.

You'll need to talk to a local about the school districts though and specifics. Good luck on your move.
