In my Humble Opinion--La Crosse is the nicest city in the state of Wisconsin. Friendly people, affordable housing, recreational oppotunities galore, bike friendly, good public transportation, low crime rates, vibrant downtown, beautiful setting on the Mississippi River. Community is on the 'Liberal' side--but not as prominent as is Madison. Also, Milwaukee, Chicago and the Twin Cities are all within a 4 hour drive or less. Truly a gem of a city!!

Default LaCrosse

oh yeah, i agree LaCrosse is beautiful. Reasonable size (IMHO), lots of community activities, close enough to the Twin Cities or Madison if you want a weekend in a bigger venue. Hiking, biking, boating ect. 4 year UW campus. One downside, may be difficult to find a good paying satisfying job there. It's a mystery to me what people in LaCrosse do for employment.

La Crosse would be the perfect choice. Lots of recreational opportunities. One downside is taxes-fairly high in the city. Employment? Lots of people work in health care. Gundersen Lutheran is one of the largest employers and Logistics Health is growing fast.

I completely agree with all the above posts. I live in LaCrosse for many years (now in Boise, Idaho) and it is one of the best places I have lived in.
