We'll be relocating to WI soon and we'll have the option of working in either Mosinee or Medford. Medford looks pretty small so I think if I choose that, I would live in Marshfield, same thing for Mosniee and Wausau. Is one better than the other? We're looking for something with a small town feel but with large town shopping, dinning, recreation, etc.
Any suggestions?

Thanks

I would pick Wausau. There's more shopping, more population, closer to more things, nicer views like hills, trees ect. Marshfield is smaller, limited shopping and its kind of like an island. Its in the middle of no where.... my husband grew up there and when I asked him why he didn't settle in Marshfield he told me "Even the wind doesn't stop on it way thru town". I think that means its flat and windy.

Flat yes
Windy...........not really

I live in MFLD so I will give the best description I can. If you are looking for the best healthcare you should come live here simply for that fact that the clinic is top notch. If you are looking for shopping go Wausau. If you are going to move to MFLD I suggest North Side because tahts where all the newer development is. If you got to Wausau Id say the Rib Mountain area is a beautiful place (just traveled up there to days ago for a hiking trip).

Wausau has more crime.................if that matters much because it isnt horrible or anything.

Marshfield has nice parks and very good school system (I cant speak for Wausau cause I attend Marshfield High School) Medford really is boring and unelss you want your friends to work at Tombstone I suggest you go elsewhere

wausau or Mosinee. Very conveniently located, right off the interstate where you can drive up to other towns without much effort. You might also want to consider Appleton. Marshfield is a nice city tucked in the middle of nowhere. It will take you about 2 hours to get to another medium sized town.

medford is quite a drive from marshfield

given the choice, i'd rather work in mosinee and live in either stevens point or wausau. stevens point is probably a better choice, that's going to be a pretty good fit for what you described above. and for bigger city shopping it's only an hour from fox river mall in appleton.

Definitely Wausau. Take a look at Rib Mountain, Schofield and Weston. All pretty nice places to live within a few minutes from Wausau.

Good luck with the move!

Wausau metro area/Mosinee over Marshfield. I agree, Rib Mountain and the Schofield/Weston area. Marshfield only if you will be working in the healthcare industry. Medford is small and in the middle of nowhere, though it is home to Tombstone Pizza and Weathershield Mfg.

I live in Stevens Point...30 miles from Wausau and Marshfield. Good housing, a University of Wisconsin campus and Sentry Ins. Also AIG and a Lands End call center. I think the college campus makes all the difference. I lived in Wausau/Schofield for 13 years and really liked it.

I moved to Wausau about one year ago due to my job relocating. I moved from Oconomowoc. Although Wausau is very beautiful, lots of places to shop, I dont find the health care is at the level it is in the Waukesha County area. Although Wausau is larger it has that small town feel, if you are not from here good luck trying to be accepted. I find the people in Wausau to be not friendly.
