Hi Meri001, I understand what you're going through as I have been searching for a couple months for the same thing. I have 2 dogs so it's even harder to find!! You would think there are all kinds of older farm homes for rent but I had a really hard time finding something. I was trying craigslist and just google-ing "house for rent" in whatever town you are looking to live. Also, try finding the local paper in each town as that would probably be a good place also. Realtor.com has houses for rent but seems they are few and far between in that area. I found a house on a small lake outside of East Troy and am moving within 2 weeks so I am PSYCHED and very happy to have found something! I can tell You that if Hartford is a option for Your Family that there are homes for rent as well as apartments Too!
