Thinking about taking a job in Arena, Wi. Anyone have anything to say about Arena or the area? Good or bad? Thanks.

Arena is off Hwy 14 just west of Madison, close to Spring Green. It's a generally flat area near the Wisconsin River. Climate is typical of SW Wisconsin, i.e. short warm summer, pleasant but short Spring and Fall, long, cold, dry, winters. I have never lived there but people in the area are generally really very friendly once you get to know them. What sort of questions did you have? The nearest "big" city is Madison about a half hour drive to the east.

Arena is a very small town -- I think maybe a couple hundred people live there. There is virtually nothing there -- there's like a gas station/convenience store, a restaurant, and I think an antique store. That's about it. If it weren't for the Lake Louie brewery, I doubt anyone would even know Arena exists.

But, that's a pretty scenic area with nice rolling hills and there are some very nice little towns nearby. If you like small-town living, you really can't do much better than one of the towns nearby like Spring Green, Black Earth, or Mazomanie.

Peck's is about 2/3rds of the way to Spring Green. Even if it technically has an Arena address (which I'm not sure it does), it certainly isn't anywhere near town.

Haha, OK, you win. It is slightly closer to Spring Green, but only a 5 min drive from Arena, and south/east of the river.

And that raises the point, if you're going to have to drive to a different town for even basic amenities, might as well live in one of those towns. Unless you want to live among a small cluster of houses in the middle of nowhere, in which case Arena fits the bill.

True, no reason you could'nt work in Arena, but live in Spring Green, Mazo, or even Middleton. Middleton would probably be my choice, but prob. ~ 30 mins drive to Arena.
