Just this weekend I saw no less than 5 older, white males working in menial jobs. Two were at the drive through at MCD, another 2 at Costco, sweeping the floor, one making pizza. Another was sweeping up at a local grocery store.

You could tell from the way the talked they were educated, probably had professional careers in the past. Now there they are, taking the only job they can find, probably minimum wage at that.

While the "good" jobs go to the foreign guys, they are the only ones who understand science, of course. Would help if they understood basic English.

It was just so hard to see people reduced to such pathetic circumstances just to survive. The most discriminated class in the workforce is the over 50, white male, no doubt about that!

Sheesh now we have whites doing menial jobs? What next blacks or latinos being office workers?

You have more conversations with people sweeping floors than most, and are certainly amazing in deducing past careers from speaking patterns.

No, the white male is the preferred person to get a job. I had been passed over for jobs by white males a few times. Over 50? Maybe other races will experience more discrimination.

Just tell me why most American CEOs are white males. Like sure there is discrimination against minorities, not the white male.

My 64 year old MIL is a lobby lady at McD's. Why? Because that is what she wants to be doing. She does not want more responsibility or more hours. She just wants to get out of the house for a few hours.

That is great for your MIL, and many retired people do take part time jobs to give them something to do.

But there are many people in this country right now(of all races) who are working at jobs like the OP described. That is if they can even convince someone to hire them.

When you see people in their 40s and 50s who seem to be educated doing menial jobs, you can bet they're a victim of the new economy.

Maybe they just wanted something to do to stay active and get out of the house. Until a few years ago my grandfather worked at Target. Not because he had to, but because he enjoyed it.

It's not just the males it's the females too, and that'd be me. I'd be happy for one of those minimum wage jobs but in my area I can't even get one of those

You would lose your bet. I'm educated, with a 4-year degree and post-graduate studies, several professional certifications, and a few pre-med courses just for the fun of it.

I actually prefer working at Burger King to working in an office. Currently, I'm working in an office. I'm hoping for an opening at Burger King soon so I can get back to what I enjoy.

I am glad to see "older" people working in food service. They value good food more than youngsters that are always in a hurry to return a text message.

They are not actually being discriminated against. At age 50 they should own a company, not be working at a middle management job. They probably haven't had any training for 30 years so why hire them?

The reason most american CEOs are white males is because CEO positions aren't filled like a "job" is. CEO positions are "taken" by the most qualified and aggressive types.

BTW, there are CEOs of every race and gender. Also, no one "gave" them their "job".
