I've seen professors at universities bring dogs to their offices but that's about it.

It depends on the individual company rather than the industry. I seem to recall several places in Silicon Valley allowed it when I lived in the area. A few years ago I actually found a website that listed the employers that allowed dogs at work. Of course there was only a handful here in Florida, but they varied quite a bit as far as the industry went.

Here are few... dog grooming salons, pet care facilities/hotels, dog-walking companies, shelters, etc. Some of the big high-tech companies also allow dogs, and/or provide on-site doggy daycare. I know Google is dog-friendly, which prompted me to look for a job there - but unfortunately I wasn't qualified for any of their openings. My dog would probably be a distraction anyway, since he gets bored sitting around & is better off at home.

The people who sell invisible fences get to bring their dogs with them.

If you own your own business you can bring your dog.

And maybe if you live in Colorado, colorado seems to be big on not wearing shoes, bringing your dog around with you, smoking joints and eating granola

A friend of mine is an on-the-road technician and takes his girl with him to work just about every day. While he's doing his jobs she happily stays in the truck, gets lots of "walkies" in between and even gets to come into my pub for some treats when they're in the area!
