It only took 8 months. Although it doesn't pay as much as other jobs I've had in the past, it does pay considerably more than unemployment, and minimum wage; I do not feel as though I settled for any menial job.

Why was I able to get this job?

Well for one, I was qualified. However, I've been qualified for many jobs in the past and didn't receive the time of day from them. The main reason I got hired was the fact that there was former boss of mine working there. I used to work with him at a manufacturing plant that closed their doors many years ago. At the time I applied, I didn't even know he was working there. Luckily, he remembered me and knew I was a good worker.

Obviously it feels good to get a job anyway you can, but to get one this way makes me feel better better because you know someone actually appreciates your work ethic. I will be the first to admit I was starting to feel pretty worthless after being out of work for 8 months so this definitely will help my ego.

To all the other employers who decided to overlook my resume, all I've got to say is: KISS MY #$%.

Congrats on your job, may we all become lucky this year.

In todays market it's not just what you know but WHO you know in so many instances.

Again congrats

Congradulations!

The first thing you do besides working is to pay attention as to who are the main players at your office and get to know them.

Second show up on time. Try to be there about 15 min early.

Congrats! Always good to hear something good on this forum. I got my job by referral as well. I went unemployed for as long as you did as well. I felt worthless too. Now keep the work ethic and make that money!
