I have been searching through some internships of late and I ran across one where the job wanted "internship experience" for an internship job. I thought that was funny.

Thankfully from what I saw that was the exception not the norm.

We hire a lot of high school, college, and graduate interns, and experience as an intern is a plus, because it's experience. Just because it's an internship doesn't mean we don't want the best person for the job.
In our case the salary is a range, and starting pay will be based on experience. One opening we have no, for example, pays between $12.54 and $18.88. If we hired a college intern that's going to be a senior in the fall, he might have 2-3 summers experience here or elsewhere and get the top pay.

That's not surprising considering the norm has now changed from no prior experience-one internship to 2-3 internships. In a lot of my classes, professors would tell us that we should definitely have more than one internship. However, I agree that that prerequisite does make finding your first internship more difficult.
