I live in NYC area, and I am mostly interested in anti terrorism, organized crime, human and drug trafficking so they all kinda fit my criteria. I gave serious thought to NYPD, as they have all the above departments, but it is just not for me-I absolutely don't wanna do beat time, which could be many yrs and deal with petty street bs before I get to an actual unit I like. I am fluent in Russian (US citizen) and all the Eastern block action is right here plus I wouldn't wanna relocate to some random state. I know ICE has an office in NYC too, but I heard that most of their work has to do with near the border commotion, mostly Mexican border. I am strictly talking about HSI part, not deportation department or what not.

With which agency would I get more chance to get stationed in NYC, at least eventually?

I heard a few people say that many people in fed law enforcement don't wanna work in NYC, why is that?

Any additional info on the above agencies will be appreciated. Please no links though, as I have already checked everything online, just looking for personal input from someone who knows this first hand, hopefully.

You are missing info on one key ingrediant - a college degree. Most FBI agents not only have a college degree, but a law degree. I think DEA and ICE are similiar. These are professional positions, not flunky city cop positions.

That being said, your Russian language skills can be of use, yes. But don't even think about applying without a degree, and/or some other law enforcement or maybe military background (yup, that means beat time), unless it's to do janitorial work at the local FBI office.

I know you gotta have a degree, I am working on that right now, (will be looking into internships soon), but that's not what I asked. I am asking about the jobs themselves, not applicant requirements. Like I said, I have done my research.

I see. You want to start out as an expert with no experience. I'm sure those officers doing "beat time" dealing with "petty street bs" know far more than you about organized crime, trafficking, and anti-terrorism.

You might want to take your criteria down a notch, there.

Yea, ICE will have you working on the Mexican border, especially the Arizona border. I know a couple of ICE Special Agents and they're all stuck in AZ for a minimum of two years. College degree required, but all other training is provided. You don't need to do any "beat time".

FBI will obviously have jobs in NYC.

C-D is probably not a good place for specialized info on DEA, DHS, FBI. Have you tried the forum at federalsoup.com? There are subforums dedicated to FBI, DEA, and DHS.
