My wife is set to graduate in a few weeks, but we are growing concerned about the job offerings for her here in the Phoenix area. A lot of her co-workers have graduated in the last year and are not having luck finding employment. There are also rumors about a local hospital laying off nurses, essentially flooding the market with experienced nurses around the same time she will be able to launch her new career.
She has great grades, excellent references from both employers and instructors and about 7 years of experience in the medical field as a paramedic.
We don't have any roots here, so we are willing and excited for the opportunity to start a new adventure in a new city. We have a few places on our "radar", but I would love to hear opinions of where new grad nurses have an easier time finding work.
Our requirements are pretty simple. within 2 hours of an airport and the more coastal the better.
not coastal, but I've had several of my friends graduate in the last year with nursing degrees here in Dallas and all had job offers lined up before graduation. All graduated from the UT Arlington program...and all of them work at Baylor area hospitals.
I live in south carolina and last I checked there were over 100 jobs posted between our two sister hospitals. Check out Palmetto Health. Teaching hospital and they actively hire new grads
Texas, Florida, South Carolina, I definitely agree. There are definitely jobs out there. My cousin just graduated with her BSN and was swooped up rather quickly.
No. Boston is glutted. Yes, it's medical mecca for care and facilities, but the many colleges and community colleges pump out a lot of grads. Unless the OP saw a specific opening or was offered a particular job, I'd say just forget about Boston. (Disclaimer: I work at a psychiatric hospital and it only hires new grads because they're cheap. One night job recently had 80 applicants. Some of the per diem new grad hires have said that the per diem was all they could get, and when I ask about their classmates, assuming they are local/regional grads, the answer is the same.
Not trying to be difficult, but Boston is OUT.
