On Friday we had an employee lunch, as we do every 6 months.
One of the non-manager employees walked in to pick up his work assignment and a gift certificate that he had won. The supervisor was standing in the hallway and called him a "kiss ass".
I thought to myself "wow, how unprofessional". Even in a joking manner, that has to be down right out of line for a manager to call a employee a name like that.
Sounds like a very lose environment if that takes place. I've worked around people like that before.
I don't like that kind of interaction. Things can get out of hand, fast. It's not cute nor is it a sign of professionalism.
It's not cute. Work should be kept professional. Though some laid back fun that is clean and non offensive is fine.
This manager is clearly envious of something, Or insecure. A manager should be coherent, professional and on the ball at all times. It comes with the territory.
but if it didn't directly involve you, STAY OUT OF IT! You will be asking for trouble if you take a side against this "manager". I myself would feign ignorance if I was asked about it.

I am a manager. I don't tip toe around anyone. I don't walk around with my tail tucked in like some of you.
I think it really depends on the relationship between the two. For the most part I have had very good relationships with my managers and that includes joking around.
