I was just curious about this. I read in this forum a lot of times of business owners who business had to close, destroyed (natural disaster maybe?) or decide they don't want to run a business, that people won't hire them because its not like a typical job working under someone, even if their business was uber successful . So what do those people do?

I am an example of that. My business did very well for 16 years, but in 2008 started to lose customers as they went out of business or cut back on our services to try and survive. For the next two years, as other businesses like mine cut back on staff or closed up, I did contract work for some of my former competitors when they needed help for big jobs. Eventually by 2009 that was not enough so I started to look for a job.

I was able to combine my business experience with (unrelated) previous career experience and found a job that required the skills and experience from both. After 18 months in that position when a managerial opening came I got the promotion largely due to my experience from owning the business. Now another 18 months has passed with 2 raises and I really enjoy the job and benefits, regular pay checks and normal working hours.
