I worked at the major bookseller for seven years, prior to the age of e-readers, much less tablets. I love to read, so it was a pretty good fit for me, and the employee discount was great. What I hated most were the late nights, and recovering the store at the end of the night, especially during the holidays. One Christmas Eve, we were there an hour and a half after closing. The pay was pretty crappy, but the medical benefit was actually pretty good. Don't know if it still is, but comparing what it was then to what I've had since, it was actually the best.

I worked in retail in high school, and again shortly after having kids (wanted to stay home with my kids, so got a nighttime job to help make ends meet). I voted for quite a few of those items, but my top few negatives would be customers and working times when you'd rather be off (holidays, weekends, whenever). I really enjoyed a lot of customers, but the ones who suck REALLY suck. They can be so cruel and rude, it's ridiculous! And so many times, the assumption seemed to be that cashiers were uneducated and stupid. I enjoyed my life better when I could see the humor in some of the asinine experiences.

On another note, I am so sick of bad customer service from those in retail. I've been there, I know it can suck, but there is no reason to be rude to customers who are polite and respectful. Chip on your shoulder or what?
