I lived in Dover from 1998 to 2001, we bought a house while we were there. Delaware has some of if not the only state on the East Coast lowest real estate tax. We paid about $150K for out house and our taxes were about $1,100 a year. We live in NC now and our taxes are almost $4,000. I'm sure the taxes have gone up in DE, but probably not that much. Delaware does not have any state sales tax that really helps too. We will be moving from NC next year, the plan is to move to Northern Virginia or Maryland, but with the price of homes in both of those states, returning back to Delaware might be on the list.
