I have been thinking about this for some time and I am not able to get ahead on this.

I have a finance degree from 5 years ago I have as many years working in the accounting A/R area dealing with credit and financial analysis of other companies.

My current goal is to get into more general accountancy and internal reporting so I have been looking at and applying to a lot of Staff Accountant positions in the area but I am having a hard time getting any interviews simply because my job titles do not match. Meanwhile, I AM technically in accounting and have pretty solid understanding of how things work with accruals and reporting.

Has anyone dealt with this sort of predicament? I feel I am being rejected on the grounds of the technical definitions of the position versus my actual knowledge and abilities.

Skillsets matter more than the title.

Keep looking and keep applying, and you will get there. Don't give up, and be persistent, something will happen.
