Just wondering because I have an upcoming interview in NYC and the salary is starting with $45K + bonuses. With the cost of living, I don't know if this is okay so I wanted to ask "vets" of the workforce for their opinion.
Which industry? In the financial industry that's reasonable for entry level since you would expect anywhere from 70% to 150% bonus. Any job is better than no job but $45k might price you into brooklyn, queens or parts of NJ.

Thanks. And that is interesting about the bonuses.
It's in the Finance industry and I have relatively no experience...and I'm unemployed. I currently live in Hackensack, NJ but I would probably to to move to Fort Lee or Jersey City.
I had a friend who started out at about $40k I think. She started living in Hoboken, NJ, which I guess is a pleasant area with a lot of young professionals. I don't think it's bad for entry level at all. I started out at around $32k in Denver. That's probably about the equivalent given the COL difference.
Tough to live in lower Manhattan on that salary, even with roommates. I would look for somewhere in Brooklyn or Northern NJ. If you have 2-3 roommates, you can probably find a place in the $1200 range, which sounds doable. However, in lower Manhattan these same places could run as high as $1,800 a month, which is a big difference.

For entry level, that is excellent. There are plenty of areas around the city you can live that are affordable. Good luck with the interview!
I started off making something like that in NYC and I lived in Hackensack with a roommate. I'm not sure you will be able to afford Manhattan but it's a perfectly livable wage.

Concentrate on landing the job first and then worry about the salary. I know people with 5+ years on experience who would interview for that job at that salary. The unemployment is still high. Also, It's an employer's market out there. Remember, you have no relative experience in this job/field so you can't really expect a high salary.

I got the job! I started a new post but I should have just posted in this one. I forgot I made it since it is from the beginning of the month.

I live in Hackensack now with my grandmother. I don't really like it very much. I'm considering moving to Edgewater or Weehawken, with a roommate of course.
When I first started working in a different industry, I made about 45K with no bonuses in NYC. All of my co-workers made the same. We all lived in NYC and we were fine. (We all lived in Brooklyn/Manhattan.) It's completely doable, though it would be easier in Brooklyn. (And maybe even cheaper for you in Staten Island.)
