Be honest, would you be able to put up with an arrangement where your boss sits next to you all day at the same desk (no barriers) and you don't have any privacy from him?

Yes, I've done this at a small company. Whether it works out largely depends on the boss. Not all of them are pointy haired micro-managers.

I agree with Sassberto. It depends on the person and it also depends on the job. If it's something I'm good at, it wouldn't bother me. If it was something I was okay at, it might bother me.
