30 years old, unmotivated at work. Should I consider career counseling? (jobs, careers)

I have been working in my particular field for about 5 years now and I am completely burnt out. I want to make more money, but I have no desire to move up the ladder as my job is stressful enough at my current level (my manager has it worse than me).

Of course, I know if I make a career change I may have to take a cut in pay. It would be worth to have a job I like, but I have no idea where to begin. Would anyone recommend a career counselor? They appear to be expensive, and I worry that if I pay all this money to talk to one, I'll still be in the same position down the line.

Most people have no idea what they want to do "at first". They fall into a job and that is their career for the next 40 years.

You are lucky, you found out what you don't want.

Go get a book on careers. Or look up on the internet a list of all the careers in existence. Read through the list and choose the top 20, then whittle it down to a few you want to try - and then try them.
