I was just wondering if anyone knows any big companies that are in need of an electronics technician with military experience? I did 5 years in the Navy, and I completed military electronics schools. It just seems hard for me to compete with people that have a college degree. I feel like my technical and life experiences are worth way more than any recent graduate though.

If we are talking about the AECF/SECF pipeline yes you did receive some top notch electronic training. I went through the pipleline myself in 99. However Did you get your electronics mechanic lisence, or did you finish a AA degree. This makes it hard to market you on the outside without those things done. Another thing, did you get out as a E4/E5/E6 that makes a big deal too.

google bradly morris. They are a military placement specialist that helps vets that were in technical rateings find jobs. I have heard good things about them, so give them a call try to set something up. They will help you with resume writing and also interviewing techniques. Also remember that a lot of electronic jobs have went the way of the do do bird. Hopefully this helps you.

One last note. A lot of military guys get out exepecting the world to be handed to them. I'm not speaking on your case, but I hear that a lot. Its all about networking and being prepared to seperate. I have known guys to get out and be working at fast food and 3 weeks ago they were working on 30 million dollar F/A-18 Hornets.

This county will hollar and scream "thank you for your service" but when its up, its up and a lot of vets end up falling on there arse. Ok let me get off my soap box, but I hate to hear vets in these situations.

If you are interested in living in Georgia, you can apply at AT&T- they are hiring techs for their new TV service, also Comcast and Scientific Atlanta. If you have avionics experience, Lockheed Martin in Marietta hires.

Default It is hard.

I agree with BH81. It can be very difficult finding a job. BH81 was right a lot of Veterans expect to get out the military and expect the world, and it's not always the case. I expect the problem is among college grads too. First off where do you live? I live and work around D.C. where recession really doesn't effect us here, has it effects many other places. Also many jobs now days are going through a profit crisis. Look at Sprint they recently cut over 2000 employees nation wide and many companies are doing the same. During recessions some of the first departments to get hit is the electronics and IT departments. Do you have certificates, some college, security clearance, experience with commercial electronics? I like to read over your resume. What type of place are you trying to work for? Large Fortune 500, Small business, Government, Government Contractor? Please reply or reply directly with your resume and some other information. Yeah like BH81 said, I hate seeing this happen to vets.
