So I took a sick day in late February with vomiting/diarrhea (started working here in December) and now I'm very sick again with a fever of 103 and cough. My policy at my work is no more than 2 sick days in a rolling 3 month period. So if I took a sick day tomorrow, how long before I can take another one? I work in pediatrics and these kids have given me all their germs lol. My coworkers say that you get sick a lot the first year working in pediatrics so I'm worried I might get sick again too soon before the rolling 90 days and get disciplinary action for it if I take off tomorrow.
Typically, you would start the 90 day clock from your first sick day. If that was Feb 1, and you take a sick day tomorrow, that would be fine. Your 90 days would be May 1 (approximately, I can't be bothered to actually count), so the next time you are eligible for a sick day would be May 1 or 2, depending on the exact wording of the policy.
That policy must be a great way to create business. Sick kids make employees sick, employees are required to go to work sick, sick employees make other kids sick. The circle of life, for germs.
This means your sick policy sucks. Most people are sick for more than a day at a time.
God Bless 'Murica! I bet most posters here would say her company's policy is too lenient. Fire 'em!! Fire 'em all!!!!! Amazing how many here blindly side against the workers and always for the company, as if companies are perfect entities
I believe a rolling period means that it's 90 days from the occurrence. So if you were sick in December, your 90 day period reset in March. If you took a day now, it would stick with you until July and then fall off.
That's a crappy policy though. I worked in a production environment and even there the policy was three occurrences (ie: if I was sick for 2 days consecutively, it was only one occurrence) in a 90 day period.
So if you got say the flu and were out in January, you wouldn't be able to call out again until 90 days later (at some point this month) regardless if you were sick or not? That sucks, would you be able to take a personal day by any chance or show up but then ask if you can take off because you are not feeling well?
