question for those of you who work in an office Monday-Friday. Do you go around and say good morning to everyone every single day?
I'm the kind of person where i need to have a purpose in order to initiate conversation with people (symptom of being an introvert) so I sometimes struggle with going around the office saying good morning without adding much afterwards (b.c there's no purpose). it's a very small office so i feel like it's more noticeable than if i worked in a really big office. starting to feel like a weirdo b/c of this
When I worked in an office, I didn't make the rounds of the office to say "good morning," but I said it to my co-workers when I happened to see them in the morning. I'm an introvert, too -- that has nothing to do with an inability to say "good morning." No conversation need follow a simple greeting.
I work with about 70 other people, all of whom also have their own offices. I would be saying "good afternoon" by the time I tracked everyone down.
I will smile and say "good morning" or just "Hi, [name]" to anyone I run into in the hall or breakroom. Other than that I come in and get more-or-less right to work.
Not every single person every single day, but virtually everybody virtually every day. My workspace is near the entrance to my department, so people pass by me when they arrive in the morning. Of the dozen or so people who work in my department, I'd say I greet 10 or 11 each day.
When I get in I say good morning to the people who sit near me and also say hello/good morning to people in passing. At a past position, I got in one day and didn't say good morning to my boss (since she was on the phone) and she was NOT happy. That has stuck with me so now it's just a habit.
