How many hours of sleep do you need to function at work properly and do you ever fall asleep at work. What is the average hours of sleep you actually get every day including weekends.

It is the worst if you have no cuble and in the middle of the room and cant close your eyes for a few minutes.

Depends on the job.

I've slept at a job before that was 4-8am, and my job was to do a key inventory, so from like 4:45 to around 6:45am I dozed. And if the doors clicked, it meant someone was entering, and I woke up (light dozer). I didn't do it every day, but thats a hard shift to work, and I quickly traded someone else for another.

Other than that, Im generally fine if I get less than 6 hours, or 8+. If Im in that 6-8 range, Im just dead.

And I try to average 8.

Oh, and my current job? I never sleep at it. Im moving too much.

I need at least 6 hours. I like to get about 7-8, but that isn't always possible.

Fall asleep at work? You're kidding, right? I am an insomniac and many nights I get less than 2 hours of sleep, and have never even though about sleeping on the job.

Ideally nine, but that is usually a pipe dream for most people. And Evey - From one fellow insomniac to another - I hear you!

I sit by a guy that falls asleep every day... EVERY DAY. I have a very boring job, never fallen asleep...eyes droopy and rest my eyes now and then, but never sleep!

I can work on no sleep, or little sleep (like 2 or 3 hours) but I need to sleep like 10 or 12 the next night, or go to sleep immediatley after I get home from work that night!

In one job we had had phone reps, and this one guy used to snore, AND talk to customers,,never sure how he managed. But anyone being able to sleep says POOR supervision.

Myself, 7.5 hours is ideal. Over 8-9 and it takes half the day to get motivated.

um, well we are professionals and are not supervised like hawks. Yes he is unproffesional, but also quite young. If we had more supervision I'd be out of there, the working enviornment is controlled enough. He only falls asleep for a few minutes until he is interrupted by the phone or a coworker...he does hide it very well. I've joked with him that he needs more caffiene, he will be reprimanded for it sooner or later, as people are starting to notice he jumps when they surprise him from behind. (he looks like he is just staring at his computer but hes really got his eyes closed)

I'm an accountant. Six hours minimum sleep to appear to be functional, 8 is my ideal and what I typically get.

Average 4hr / night. I don't think amount of sleep affects my "functionality" - But those that work with me are the one's that would best answer that.

I do find it hard to stay awake at pointless seminars/trainings/meetings regardless of how much rest I've had.
