I was mainly wanting to see how others coped with the commute. It's seems to drag me down at times ( I've been doing this for 3 years now) and my days are 12-14 hrs away from home. Dr appointments and dental appointments have to be planned on the same day and I usually have to take a vacation day to cover it. I am
Ok with it in the mornings, most days. It gives me a chance to shake hands with the day, but in the evening I'm pretty sure my blood pressure spikes with all the congestion on top of the distance.
I do not have to drive my own vehicle, but I'm also not technically getting paid, but in a sense not having the cost of west and tear on my own vehicle is a form of payment.
I'm trying to wager my sanity to working for a good company...

The things to take into consideration:

The wear and tear on your car. (repairs, oil changes, more frequent problems for long commutes).

The mileage you are putting on your car and the value of your car decreases (if you have plenty of money to buy another one, this might be a mute point).

Traffic congestion, major road accidents, things that could affect how long it takes you to get there.

Living near your job, priceless!

It's not worth it. I used to commute 115 miles each way, heading into the San Francisco Bay area, which meant a car accident at any point ahead of me could cause hours of delays.

Bad for your health, both mental and physical. Never, ever again.

When I have had contract jobs at that distance... I found extended stay motels and other cheep places like Motel 6 or Microtel and stayed 4 nights a week (M-Th), 3 hours (on good days) out of each day commuting would make the job NOT worth it to me.

No way would I do that! My 8 mile 45 minute commute is enough! I'd wish to be closer!

I did 30 miles one way for 20+ years, 60 a day. That was long enough. 180 a day is totally insane.

Yep. Worth it to me. As long as I'm not commuting to/from a job I hate, I would do it in a heartbeat.

A 90 mile hour and a half long commute? In my life, no way. I'd move or find a new job....or both. Life's too short to spend that much time traveling back and forth to work.

My commute is 40 minutes each way 2x a week.
Schedule is 36.5 hrs a week. Paid $12.50 for one way for gas (re-imbursement of .50 cents per mile)

I work straight thru Wed afternoon 3pm until Friday morning at 9:30am (with 6 hrs off 9am-3pm thursdays)

Yes it is worth it. I get four days off per week but in the end, often end up working extra shifts for overtime. Especially shifts which mean I do not waste gas driving home or back again.

About once a month, I become stressed and drive home on Thursday to drink a few glasses of Vodka and go online or watch tv. Happens when I am not cycling enough to de-stress. That same day, I bring about 4 ounces of Vodka to work in my backpack. About 11pm at night, I'll drink it if needed.

Usually it is NOT needed so I just leave it in my pack for the following month. Because I am on call, drinking more is not an option. I am able to sleep when work is complete, usually by 10-11pm and generally not woken up. Comfortable room with internet, desk & a fridge.

Otherwise during those 6 hr lull on Thursdays, I shop at thrift stores for inventory for my Ebay store.
Take home about $450-$525 a month w/Ebay & Amazon sales. I also grocery shop at Grocery Outlet which saves us alot of $$ on groceries. It's right next to work.

The work 401k essentially allows my husband to have medical insurance for at least the next yr or so. This sis because I have 75% of my paycheck deducted going to my 401k lowering my MAGI. Qualifying him, next year, to sign up for Medicaid.

Otherwise to pay 4-5 hundred a mo. for what amounts to catastrophic insurance for him is unaffordable. My employer doesn't pay for my spouse for anything. He is on my dental plan, life, disability, dismemberment, etc.. for a low additional cost but currently has no medical plan

Next year when he obtains a medical & dental plan, I can drop him from my dental plan saving $45 a mo. And having the assurance if he needs to see a Doctor, he can.

OP,

maybe you can work Four 10 hr shifts instead to avoid one round trip

Or three 12 hr days instead of your current schedule

Your current schedule cannot be sustainable for very long

Your life is at a standstill
