How many people worked with or known someone at worker who calls you "Hey buddy.." then turns out to be a manipulator.
Any stories to share?
I've known someone for years calls me a buddy at work but slowly I realized that he's a master manipulator around people. He would get people to do things for him as a favor but he never gives back any in return.
Until recently I was working with someone who did this exact same thing.... .and is exactly as you described. The next time I see him doing anything on his own that is productive will probably be the first time.
Had a guy who said that a few years ago. Looked and sounded like John Candy. I did not like it, but I knew I would make things worse by responding. He finally left under pressure due to poor performance.
"Buddy" is what every single guy I've ever had a relationship with, calls the guys they are accusing me of flirting with.
Example: "Who was that on the phone? Your BUDDY?" "Why did you smile at that guy back there? Is that your new BUDDY?"
In both the OP's context & mine it would appear that sometimes it is a nickname used with contempt or possibly to patronize.
I'm sure thats not across the board though, surely it must be used innocently sometimes? I'm not a guy so I've never experienced being called "Buddy" myself.
