16 days, two weeks off with the 3 weekends is the most for me since working a regular job. Back when I was in college working part time I took 2-1/2 months off and did a cross country (and Canada) road trip.
About 8 years...
First to help care for my Grandfather who became sick, then fell and became unable to walk..
Then for my Grandmother who urged me to not go back to work and stay with her after he passed away..
I had to start all over again after she passed away.
I chose a different path and I'll certainly never be rich nor even financially sound again in my life.
My current work is rewarding though and most days I leave happy a fulfilled..
Life is what it is..
I chose happiness and job fulfillment over stress, money and being not satisfied..
I'll try to save what I can and hope for the best..
I don't regret anything one bit, will I have that same opinion in my retirement years? Perhaps not.
Hell, I may never be able to fully retire. I'm not alone in that boat though..
I took off 8 weeks for maternity leave. Then a couple years later, while pregnant with my second child, I took off about six years before starting my own business.
Now that I have my own business, I think the longest I've taken off has been about 10-12 consecutive days at one time. Some years I might only do a couple of long weekends, and other years (like last year), I might take off a week at a time each month for four months. It really just depends.
That was my happiest time post-college. I went to the gym, the park, the beach, and wherever else I wanted when I wanted. I even took a two-week driving trip for fun. No pressure, deadlines, rude coworkers, or micromanaging bosses hovering over my shoulder. I saw it as a preview for what retirement will be like.
I had a lot of savings built up, so that helped tremendously.
Longest I had to do without a job was 14 months 2009-10. I was able to do some traveling and volunteering as well as search for work. Still not the worst time of my life.
