I am guestimating 120K to 150K given the nature of the job, the senior factor, and the location. But I am not in this industry so it's just a guess. I hope there is expert opinion.
Anyone in the know? Can give a good estimate? Or even better, has first hand information? Thank you.
I think that sounds about right; but while I do LIVE in Silicon Valley, I do not work in the tech industry - so I'm just guessing! I do know that it costs an arm & leg to live here, and my $80K salary barely keeps a roof over my head. But I assume you already know that.
I know for a prior company, the salary quoted was $80k for a SQL role. I was hired in at $95k and it was apparently the standard rate for most guys. The $80k might have been right 3-4 years ago, but the offers increased by 5% every year in DFW for SQL.
You don't have a date of when that salary was posted, so you would never know it.
The Reddit salary numbers have dates and salaries. I get the same numbers locally, when speaking to other friends about offers made to them.
Glassdoor’s accuracy depends on the sample size. For large companies there are plenty of data points. For small companies, not so much. I haven’t posted reviews of most of my companies but cause it would be abundantly clear I wrote the review. There is only one person with my title at a time. I’ve worked at smaller companies. If I had a job with dozens of people in the role, it would be fine to post a candid review since it could be anyone.
OP posted about a role at LinkedIn, that company is large enough and had plenty of turnover to have accurate info.
Man I would hope it's more than 120-150k out there. I would expect 200-250 for a position like that given the cost of living for the sunnyvale area.
Gotta accept what the market will bear, my friend.
But as a investment advisory veteran I will side-track to say, I think one way to get around the high housing cost problem is rent where one works, but buy in a cheaper market and rent it out. This way, at least one will be riding with the real estate price growth, and eventually should be able to shift back to the more expensive market.
This is not a theory -- 18 years ago I could not afford to buy in Bay Area, so I bought in Beijing, China. It has worked out OK. I am still looking to do the same today.
Glassdoor.com is very good... salary range attached to many actual job posts. I wonder if this is included by recruiting firm, or glassdoor.com. Logically should be the former... but I thought most companies don't want to publicize their salary range?
