This isn't really news. This has been known for a long time.

It is not just Disney.

Look at all the executive assistant jobs, HR assistant (pretty much ANY assisant), administrative, paralegal, office manager, business office manager, receptionist, retail worker, .....all at least want bachelors degree and TONS of experience. They pay $40-$60k in an area like LA and surroundings, where you need a second job to pay your bills. The cost of living over here is insanely out of balance with pay. Still .... lots of rich people.. I don't know how they do it ....with $40k/year you have to live with other people, you cannot even afford a studio apartment.

What's the problem? I don't recall any employment contract being built upon the premise of meeting a person's personal financial goals. If your life requires a minimum salary of $85k, then don't take a $12/hr job.

I think if you're going to claim to be a successful large company, you should be able to pay your employees a living wage and not use taxes to subsidize your employees living expenses. Why am I helping Disney and Walmart, etc. pay their employees? If they can't pay them enough then they aren't a successful business, unless you count how smart they are for using federal and state dollars to help subsidize their payroll. Why are we continuing to let this fly?
Pure nonsense. Disregarding the fact there is no clean definition of "living wage", an employer offers an amount of money for a job and an employee is free to take it or go elsewhere. These corporations pay no less than the mom n pops that they replaced. These workers would make make no more elsewhere. If not for these jobs, these workers would be drawing even more welfare. Walmart is costing the taxpayer $6 billion, they are saving the taxpayer $10 billion for the welfare that would be doled out if not for these jobs. Because that is the real alternative, not your utopian fantasy of everyone making high wages.

If I were one of the union members I would be asking UNITE HERE some hard questions and pressing them to negotiate a better deal. Unfortunately too many union members blindly pay their dues and don't think they need to participate in improving their working conditions.

UNITE HERE sounds like a weak union that is more beholden to Disney than it's members.

Sometimes members have to take things into their own hands.

Well, pretty much EVERY life requires a minimum salary of $85k over here. But why should Disneyworkers with no college education earn more than $37k if lots of people who put in the effort of obtaining a degree and have more skills to offer earn not much either?

The problem is that housing and groceries are too expensive.

in another publication, they interviewed a single mother of three earning $11+/hr and the picture of the family doesn't show they are struggling

There is so much technology for people to be dispersed around the country yet we have the 2 golden coasts that have all the 80% of the well paying jobs in the country.

The political side is many tech companies are hostage to tax deals in order to keep jobs at sanctuary states in order to keep proppoing up the democrats liberal agenda of feeding the illegal and the poor.
