What happened to the old days when a company took your application or interviewed you, then sent you a letter if they hired someone else or just was not interested. If you are lucky enough to get a phone call after four or five months, they have an attitude if you are no longer interested.

Because the typical way the corps run today is that they cut every single department to the bone and they are just not staffed up to do that anymore.

I would agree with that when it comes to the applications they have accepted, but if they take the time to interview you once or twice, it's only fair to say hey buddy, looks elsewhere.

Default courtesy

Staff or no staff, all it takes is a pre-set email or senting a 3 by 5 card. I dont buy the reason that isnt enough staff or time or costs, etc. Theyre all excuses. It's the employers market so they do what they want. Wait till the economy changes and we have more jobs than people, I bet they'll change their attitude then. We have been here before. The unions are busted so theyre only good at collectimg dues. The sad thing is that while we concentrate on the illegal fruit pickers, yeah right they took my job, it was a career goal. Anyway, they give work visas away like candy to so called professionals for jobs they claim cannot be filled by Americans. Then why in the heck are people going to college if no one is qualified afterwards. The illegal worker theme is just take your attention away from this fact. . Could it be that perhaps the nonqualification factor is wages, benefits and complaints about sweat shop conditions.

I asked a neighbor of mine who is a recruiter, and she told me the reason why companies no longer send out notices, is because they are afraid of getting sued. They do not want anything said verbally or in a letter to be used against them.

I agree with being courteous. I interviewed for my dream job over a month ago. After sending thank you's and follow ups to the 3 people who interviewed me...NOTHING. I even emailed my HR contact and have heard nothing. Atleast let me know you hired someone else or because of budget cuts have decided not to proceed with hiring anyone. To say nothing is sad. Emails are free and take less than a minute to type and send.

This is just one of many reasons why I want out of Corporate America. The days of spending 30 years with a company and being appreciated for it are over. There's a guy in another forum here that was just laid-off after 30 years without so much as a thank you.

There is no courtesy whatsoever. No notice when you're being let go and yet they want a two weeks notice when you leave. Right.

Smart people always have their eyes open for the bigger and better opportunities and keep their loyaties to themselves, instead of a company. (Yes, there are a few exceptions when it comes to good companies, but I dare say "few.")

I 100% agree! My husband was just going through this. He was with his last company for 16 years so had been out of it awhile. Best move he made leaving by the way because it really made him realize how undervalued he was and how under paid!
Anyway, the "gauntlet" as we like to call it, that he has gone through with multiple companies has been exhausting. Some he's been to 3 or 4 interviews. The process drags out for 4 to 6 weeks.
The job offer he excepted last week was from a company on a fast track. Their communication has been phenomenal. I can't even tell you how refreshing it's been! And technically, he hasn't been turned down/told no by any of the other companies he had going in the works.
He had the recruiter he was working with on one of those call today and ask him if he accepted another position (because she saw his Facebook). He told her yes, and she talked to him about how frustrated she was at how the other company was dragging their feet. In the end, they loose out on potentially the best prospects I think!
To make matters worse, those companies that put you through so many interviews, having you meet everyone and their brother, make you feel like you are the one when you leave there - then dead silence.....

I can't tell you how many jobs I've applied for, by email or snail mail because of a SPECIFIC OPENING that was posted and got no response.. not even a "Thank You, we got your stuff and will be in touch" or "thank you, but the position has been filled" or "Thank you, but you're not what we're looking for".

Mind you, Im not applying in big towns like Memphis, Orlando, Boston or Dallas. We're talking small towns like Sheridan and Gillette Wyoming.. Elko Nevada.. you get the idea, smaller, semi rural towns.

I even had one boss, upon my deperature tel me, "We honestly want talent we kow we can't afford".

Alot of people in my industry OFRGET where they came from. They forget what it was like when they started out. They forget what it's like to not hear back about a job. They forget that a little common courtesy goes a long way and leaves "a good taste", so to speak, in the applicants mind about your company.

ALot of people in my business seem to have this distorted view of just what kinda talent they should find in their itsy bitsy little town and just how little they can pay. Basically, they seem to think theyre alot more iportant then they are.

Am I complaining? No, juststating the fact, I know many others who agree.
