Such a waste of effort if you ask me. I don't let any government or party in power dictate my personal circumstances, I make my own. If you think because "so and so" is President, or isn't President, and that's the reason your personal circumstances are dire, then you are a delusional idiot.

There is a huge shortage of workers in the construction industry, but too many younger people haven't been trained or are afraid to get a little dirty or heaven forbid get a splinter that will keep them from playing Fortnite or something. The ones that do show up place a higher priority on their next tattoo or piercing over the quality of work they produce. It's sickening if you ask me, and they deserve to suffer a lot. It will make for a stronger country and workforce eventually, but probably not in my lifetime.

There are actually more jobs available now than there are people to fill them, it's just that everyone started thinking they were too good to work certain jobs while they waited for something better to come along.

Stop it with the falsehoods that things are getting bad BS. It's not true for most of the country right now, especially black people who have record low unemployment, no matter how bad your angry ideology wants it to be true.

(This isn't directed exactly at the OP, just the flurry of responders who couldn't wait to throw their "Oh woe is me" political jabs in thinking that somehow the current President is responsible for their misery. He is not, you are just miserable people overall)

SS

Are you joking? LOL. A lot people left construction/have chosen not to enter the field due to low pay. The industry got so used to hiring people who are illegally in the country and chose not to raise wages to attract U.S. workers. They got a bad rep and are still reeling from it. In some states the pay is drastically low and this turns people of all ages off.

Young people deserve to suffer a lot? Be careful...they're the ones who are/will be supporting your SSI and Medicare. They are already suffering. The student loan crisis is crippling many of them and there were plenty who graduated to no jobs during the Great Recession. Those who did find work were paid oftentimes a third of what the job paid before the Great Recession. There's a lot wrong with your post.

It seems as if people just don't have the amount of money they used to have. I have heard many complain that they haven't gotten pay raises in YEARS. The pay rise they do get doesn't amount to much. And then you have a population that is saddled with student loan debt.

Truckers Cut Payrolls As Freight Demand Softens
Hiring in broader logistics slows as red-hot growth pace of 2018 cools down

Trucking companies pulled back from hiring in March as freight demand softened and job growth across the logistics sector slowed.

Carriers cut payrolls by 1,200 jobs last month, according to preliminary figures the Labor Department reported Friday, halting a nearly yearlong expansion amid signs a hot streak that boosted transportation companies’ profits in 2018 is cooling.

Trucking company Covenant Transportation Group Inc. last month lowered its first-quarter profit forecast, citing weaker than expected freight volumes from late January through mid-March.

“We attribute the softer demand to factors such as late 2018 inventory growth in advance of the perceived impact of tariffs, the effects of the partial government shutdown on spending and extended periods of inclement weather,” the company said in a statement.

I've heard the same.

This! White collar crime doesn't exist (after all it's "victimless") and/or it doesn't need to be punished because the people who committed them made a mistake and are inherently good people.

Uh, no.

Construction firms love to hire illegal aliens and construction is pretty much been taken over by them. How do you expect people, who want market wages, to compete against illegal aliens that work at a fraction of that?

There is no shortage of workers in the construction industry. There is a shortage of EMPLOYERS in the construction industry willing to hire Americans over illegal aliens.

Sounds like you drank the cool-aid.

I stopped reading "reports" like these decades ago.

Anyone can grab information from any direction, to make a case or point, towards any agenda. It's naive to take the bait. Even if it aligns with what you want to hear, that's still no excuse.

You need to calm down. People with experience who are older cost more money, and they don't need everyone to be a mid-level exec or at the C-level. You have a department with 300 people in it, you don't need everyone to be expensive to get the work done, you only need them in the leadership roles. Many companies are staffing up help desk people, coders, sales support, etc., and they aren't going to pay top dollars for them cause they don't need someone with 20 years experience to run a help desk. So they get those who cost less which are going to be younger. This has always been the case. This isn't a problem, that's how companies have always been, hiring younger people cause they are cheap. From my experience, when there has been a layoff of IT people, it was those who didn't embrace the changes and failed to keep up. That crowd that doesn't want to change, who thinks "the cloud" is just wrong. This is because someone sold them on whatever they learned in college is all they are going to need for life and that isn't how life works.

More doom and gloom constantly, so people can continue to sit on the barstool ordering another round talking about how bad things are instead of spending that time actually improving their skills and get ahead of the curve instead of waiting for them to be replaced by someone who knows the new stuff. As a hiring manager, I've seen too many with an attitude of "I got 20 years of experience" and they think that's all they need to say. I ask a few questions about modern technology and they change the subject about something that was current 10 years ago.

Doom and Gloom people collect data to support their negativity and lazy personality, but never collect data on or make a plan what they can do about it for themselves. That's because it is hard work to actually improve yourself and it is easier to sit with your other drinking buddies and complain.

The real concern is the longer-term trend, which is toward higher and higher underemployment and an ever-increasing gap between inflation and wage growth.

There will always be people who are looking to obscure real and significant concerns because doing so benefits them personally. A morals gap has led to self-centeredness becoming socially acceptable, and has led to justice, equity and compassion for others has become something self-centered people are no longer appropriately embarrassed to disparage.

I think that says all that needs to be said about your perspective.
