for the 48 hours of Saturday and Sunday....is your company covering:
1. all hotel/motel expenses?
2. all food and entertainment?
3. all local travel?
if your company will pay for all above, i see no problem.
my wife used to have that arrangement with her health care employer.
she ate at the best restaurants and saw shows she could not afford otherwise.
Why should you get paid 8 hours/day to hang out in a different city?
They should pay for the hotel room, travel and food, that's about it.
Because the company is employing him to work away from his home base. It's far enough away that it's not reasonable to expect him to drive home on the weekends. Whether it's six hours or sixty, it's a moot point.
This person will be away from home for two weeks straight without a break...that is a totally different job than working M-F 8-5.

So your wife voluntarily gave up roughly 38% of her time during the seven day week just to eat free food?
Because I'm technically being pressured to stay against my will. They aren't going to stop me from driving home but they will frown upon it.
I understand, but you aren't working those eight hours. I know you're not happy that you are working remote like that, but I don't think it makes sense to get paid to not work.

Understood, but it still doesn't make sense to be paid when not working or traveling for work. They should pay for the hotel rooms, food, and travel.

But you are also not free to do what you want to do. When I was on the road I was not free to work in my garden. Or play ball with my kids. Or eat meals with my family. Or mow the yard. Or do just about anything that I want to do with MY time. MY time, not THEIRs. When you are on the road, you are NOT free to do what you want unless what you want is to spend time in motels.

"Unless you want to spend time in motels?" You are allowed to leave the hotel when traveling. You're free to do anything in the city you traveled to.
If someone feels that strongly about wanting to physically be home, don't take a job that requires travel. That just comes with the territory.

That is what the issue is. The job didn't require this and it was changed. Try to keep up.
