I have been in the corporate rat race for a long time now and have noticed that the senior management team is getting meaner and meaner. So many of them are super aggressive alpha men and bitchy women who won't take no for an answer. They are highly competitive, mean and egotistical. They may act all friendly with their peers but behind the smiles is a serious office politician who will fight so hard- if it serves them- that you don't know what happened. These are truly TYPE A bullies who need to win.

Sounds like Donald Trump.

Would people like this do well in senior management do well at hour employer?

aggressive/type A is not the same as being mean or a bully. They expect people to push back as hard as they push, and typically respect people who know they are correct and will push back because of it.

They probably would do well as a lower level employee. Nearly all of them started as one, they moved up the ranks for a reason.

No. An energy operating company's assets obey the laws of nature and chemistry not aggressive talk or sharp elbows.

yea, but from an employees perspective are easy to manage. Cut-throat managers that only care about their own success tend to ignore employees in the middle of the pack. Not even on the radar. That has it's pros and cons. One pro is not likely to get fired over BS.

No, that type would not do well at my company particularly at my location.

My location is laid back and there is a pretty direct, open style of leadership and communication. People who try to play politics are not trusted and/or tend to be driven out pretty quickly. Either that or they leave on their own when they see being a good political player will not get them anything at the company other than a bad reputation.

We have one person at our location who is an instigator but not a politician but we all know who she is and she knows that we know about her, lol.

The non-political and non-aggressive atmosphere of my company is one of my favorite things about it. I don't work with a bunch of arseholes and that makes it much more pleasant to spend time there.

I have worked in places where the hyper-aggressive, highly political style was rewarded and those people were the management. Not good places to work.
