Someone approached me today about a "Director of Development" position. Can someone shed some light on this for me. In the past my positions have all been fundraising directly and have been referred to as such. Is this a new way of referring to fundraisers? Thanks.

It's a pretty common term in the non-profit world. Development would include fundraisers, annual giving, capital campaigns, planned giving, etc.
