New York, NY (AHN) - A survey of 2,520 executive made by a New York-based online job search website said office cursing topped the reasons why bosses fire employees.

According to TheLadders.com, 38 percent of the respondents to the online survey pointed to violation of office etiquette, primarily using cuss words, as their number one reason for terminating workers.

The last company I just worked at, we had a dock worker fired for stealing someone's $2 TV dinner from the fridge.

The girl went all out and had the General Manager rewind the tapes from the camera in the breakroom to see who did it.

They fired the guy for it. Their reason is, if he stole the TV dinner, he may just end up stealing freight.

A lot of people were pissed off at that girl for getting that guy fired. I mean, the guy was hungry! All she had to do was ask for him to re-pay her the $2 for the TV dinner.

I thought it was mean and spiteful, and she was one of those types who looks to get a lawsuit at whatever company she works for - looking for that "pot of gold".

Karma came around and bit her on the butt when she ended up having her position eliminated and was no longer needed...

Are you saying that stealing her lunch was ok, and that paying to replace it would have been sufficient?

Don't steal from people. The thief got what he deserved, IMO.

Yeah I agree. I have no tolerance for thieves. If he asked her and got her permission, totally different story. But she probably looked forward to that meal only to find it not there.

I've had my lunch stolen as well.

"I mean, the guy was hungry!"

So was I, now my lunch is gone, what am I to do? Take some other person's food?

Being hungry is not a legitimate reason to steal. There is no legitimate reason to steal, anything. Whether it is worth 2 cents, 2 dollars, or 200 dollars+.

Maybe they should have just cut off a hand for the offense, instead of firing him?

I don't drink, don't swear, don't eat at work... I make maybe 1 personal call a month, I think that I'm in good shape

For me the most annoying is my coworkers gossiping, and then swearing. My biggest problem personally is talking about politics, although I am never the one to initiate the conversation, but I wish I could just walk away from a political conversation... That could cause me problems, potentially.

As for stealing food, yeah, I'd be ticked about it if someone stole my lunch, I'm not sure that I would push it so far, but after it happen 3-4 times, I'd probably mention it to my manager, but not as a complaint.

Well stealing is stealing. Plus it's not like he left a note saying he'd pay her back for the lunch. He took it because he didn't think he'd get caught. Not the kind of person I'd want working for me.

As far as the cursing goes - I've been known to use quite a few choice words - however I know when to not. One thing that annoys me to no end is when an empployee is cursing up a storm and there are patrons of the business around.

I work with a girl like that, there will be clients and customers in the building, and she'll be talking to someone dropping the F bomb every other word - very surprised nothing has happened with it actually.

At the last place I worked at, the Regional manager would using the "F" and the "N" word non-stop. I'd always tell him he'd better watch himself - one day he'd say it at the wrong time.

Low and behold, one day he said the "N" word in front of a customer and was fired.

What a dumb-ass...

A few of us felt he should have been written up for it - warned. Nothing like that happened, just drummed out the door. Pretty humiliating if you ask me.
