Note: I was able to read the WSJ article in the link, which I found from another source. That leads me to believe others can read it for free. Apologies if a paywall pops up.

The gist of the article is: Workers making as much as $190,000 a year literally did nothing all day but attend meetings. Even a woman who worked for Meta as a recruiter for a year never hired anyone!

It seems that Big Tech companies were worried that the pandemic tech expansion would last forever so they stocked up on talent the way others hoarded toilet paper in those days.

I don't blame the workers for taking those high salaries, but it's hard feeling sorry for them now that they're being laid off. I do feel bad for Amazon warehouse workers who get laid off, though, although working conditions there are so bad that most workers quit on their own.
