Well Packers yeah, the last time American soldiers fought for our freedom was in WW II. Since then we've been in several wars in which American soldiers fought for other things, looking back it's sometimes hard to decide just what those things were.
In our history American soldiers have fought for several things; sometimes for freedom as in our revolution and WW II. Other times they fought to steal other nation's land---War of 1812, Mexican War, Spanish-American War, Phillipine Insurrection. Often they fought to steal land from the Indians; wars too numerous to mention.
Sometimes we fought to help American business interests as in several brushfire wars in Latin America and Asia.
Once we fought because we allowed ourselves to be sucked into a European power struggle----The Great War.
To have a frank and mature understanding of why our nation has fought it's wars doesn't rap the soldiers who did the fighting. They have a job to do, politics by other means as von Clausewitz said, and I respect their doing it and have benefitted by it. I couldn't live here if American soldiers hadn't defeated the Indians. But when they defeated the Indians they weren't doing it for any noble reason like freedom; just land and power.
You need an adult understanding of history and power politics.
